Ron Smith:
Retired craftsman,Southampton resident and the one remaining of five founder members. Each member was attending art classes and saw the need for an art club where we could meet and practise our art at course end. The club has since burgeoned within the community, attracting local artists of different skill levels to work together in a friendly studio atmosphere. We look forward to meeting new members and building an ever more lively, stronger club. Favoured art media are woodcarving and watercolour painting. Currently practising Chinese painting techniques. |

Bernard Staniforth:
As a boy I used to love drawing along with exploration of science. Fortunately I survived unscathed from early disasters and learnt that flaming spirits can levitate a makeshift balloon, but don't mix with a wooden paint store ( note for Turner: Shed-Fire-Ash)! However, Maths and Science pushed Art out of my time until recently. Now, along with raising my son and running a computer security business I enjoy dinghy racing and try to rekindle the art interest in my copious spare time. Oaklands Art Club helps give a tempo and friendly support to my art in the face of competing time pressures. I would love to develop an artistic skill so that I could express the excitement of racing a 12ft dinghy 3 miles off the Devon coast in a force 6 wind. |

I live in Salisbury, and work in Southampton as an Oceanographer. I am a keen yachtsman and hill walker, and generally love the outdoors. I first developed a love of painting and drawing in my late teens, but somehaow other things got in the way. Now, some thirty years later I'm rediscovering the joys of art. I am presently working on my technique in oils and watercolours, and also enjoy pencil drawing and calligraphy. |
Peter Spalding:
Romsey Resident. Favourite art medium and subject are acrylic and landscapes fhat feature interesting buildings. Art has been a hobby with me since first dabbling as a boy and subsequent development through evening classes. |
